  3. THE COL DE LA MADELEINE

The Col de la Madeleine is a hyphen between the valleys of the Tarentaise and the Maurienne. Place of pilgrimage for fans of cycling around the world, it has undergone a complete overhaul to accommodate cars, cyclists and pedestrians

Mythical place of the Tour de France

The Col de la Madeleine was climbed no less than 25 times in the history of the Tour de France. His rise is often decisive for the future of the eventual winner ...

On the north side, from La Léchère-les-Bains, the road is scenic and passes through many small villages such as Bonneval or Celliers we believe clinging to the mountain. However, this postcard payasage does not forget that the collar is off-classified category ...

Climb the Col de la Madeleine.

The north side can begin either at Notre-Dame-de-Briançon either Feissons-sur-Isère. The percentages of the first three kilometers after Feissons-sur-Isère are rough with an average of 10% but in the shade of deciduous trees. This slope, with its small towns, is much more picturesque than the south side. One kilometer after Bonneval, just before the hamlet of Villard-Benoît at about 1000 m altitude, the road becomes almost flat three kilometers with the same false-flat light descendants. But we must again climb a few bends to reach the Celliers town center. And two kilometers after Celliers-Dessus are even at 10 and 9%. From Celliers, nine kilometers from the neck, one enters the pastures with occasional waterfalls and lifts. Six kilometers from the finish, the riders have a flat area during last two kilometers; immediately followed by another straight line difficult to 9%. The last four kilometers display a vertical drop of 290 meters with 9 percent, respectively, 7, 8 and 5% with a series of switchbacks to the final three kilometers.
