What to do when the weather is bad?

You are on holiday in Valmorel and the weather is capricious… Here are some ideas to keep you busy in case of bad weather!

The bad weather won’t stop you, you want to put on your skis!

Choose the beginners’ areas and the slopes located at the bottom of the resort (Le Pré, Côte Soleil, les Traverses, etc.).

Did you know? The milestones on the right side of the piste always have an orange top so that you can tell them apart from the milestones on the left side, and so that you can find your way around even in poor visibility.

All about safety on the slopes

Always be careful and find out about the weather and conditions before venturing onto the ski area: https://www.valmorel.com/en/live-slopes-snow/

Don’t fancy skiing?

Why not try the Yooner? Halfway between sledging and skiing, the yooner will offer you new sliding sensations. It is accessible on the slopes served by the Pierrafort gondola, the Altispace, Lanchettes and Combelouvière chairlifts. You can also use the Roches Blanches and Bois de la Croix carpets.

Several sports shops offer them for hire.

The ESF offers this supervised activity, but also Mountain Kart, Snakegliss or Airboard descents on the ski area at the end of the day. Sensations guaranteed!

Original idea: discover the backstage of the ski area!

Manufacture of artificial snow, discovery of the ski patroller’s job, grooming and visit of a ski lift station. These are the free activities offered by the ski area to find out more about the mountain professions. These activities are subject to current operating conditions and may be postponed if the weather is too unfavourable.

What if the lifts are closed?

Don’t panic! There are plenty of activities to keep you busy. This is the perfect opportunity to try out non-skiing activities!

  • Treat yourself to an unforgettable dog sled ride
  • Try out the ESF’s off-ski activities such as Fat Bike, igloo building, Olympics, and for the little ones, the electric snowmobile!
  • Go snowshoeing. On your own or with a guide, this is an excellent way to discover the mountains from another angle.
  • Slide down the sledge runs! Located in the heart of the resorts of Valmorel and Doucy, these are the places to be for family fun.

If you prefer to stay dry :

  • Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation and well-being at the Spa (residences in Valmorel or Spa Õ des Lauzes accessible with the Vallée’BUS shuttle). Some Spas have treatments reserved for children!
  • Go to the cinema. In case of bad weather, two extra sessions are proposed at 2.30 pm (films scheduled at 6 pm). No more excuses for not going to see a good film with family or friends.
  • Try the Indoor Golf. Sheltered from the weather and warm, come and try golf on a high-tech game simulator in the centre of Valmorel.
  • Go for a drink and/or a snack. And what if you took advantage of being in the mountains to enjoy a good hot chocolate or mulled wine in one of the many bars in the resort? It’s also the perfect opportunity to enjoy a good dish of melted cheese!
  • Go shopping. Souvenirs, local specialities, equipment… It’s the perfect time to go shopping in Valmorel, and why not let yourself be tempted?
  • Borrow books and DVDs from the Media Library in La Léchère (accessible by Vallée’BUS shuttle)
  • Take part in the activities proposed by the tourist office! In case of bad weather, the “Salle Rencontres et Musique” is open to the public from 11am with board games, video games and cartoon projections.
  • Borrow board games from the Tourist Office
